Now here I was, reflecting, and panicking because it just might be true. A gutless pig, a bad person.

Charlie Doetz, a bad person.

What made a bad person? All I saw in what I did to Sicily was break things off because I was no longer interested. That’s what people do. Normal people. I wasn’t going to stay and build a relationship with her just because she wanted me to. I decided to move on, and so would she.

Did that make me a bad person? What was the criteria that separated a good person from a bad person? I wasn’t a murderer for god sakes.

I found myself wondering what Mikey would say to me right now. The person I had a “bromance” with. The thought annoyed me so I casted it aside.

This has bothered me far past than what it should have. The most prominent question that came to the forefront was why I was so hung up on something that had never bothered, or even occurred to me. I reasoned it was because Ray said it, which caused me to spiral. Ray and I were basically the same person. We’ve known it since the second grade and haven’t changed since, and I wouldn’t call Ray a bad person. Since we were the same, I shouldn’t be bad either, in theory. The notion was enough to calm me down and stop pacing.

I sat on my bed, staring into a void.

The notion was flawed. Because if Ray was a bad person, that could mean I was bad, too.

And the fact that I couldn’t find a convincing rationalization with my own self for the rest of the night that I was a good person was the only answer I needed.
